The Great Food Club and The Great Food Mag champions local suppliers, producers, retailers, restaurants and pubs. The Great Food Mag was set up by Matt Wright in 2010 after driving past a road sign proclaming Melton Mowbray as the rural Capital of Food. Matt realised that his home county of Leicestershire, think Stilton and pork pie, had a fantastic array of local and artisian food. Matt organised commited foodies to write to him with features on their favourite food outlets. The coverage of the magazine quickly grew to cover the East Midlands area, taking in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. Matt launched The Great Food Club in 2012, members can take advantage of discounts at local food outlets and via the web site catch up on the local food scene.
After a chance encounter with Matt, Ian took up the baton and now covers Essex and Suffolk. Recent artcles have included a fantastic rural pub, The Compasses near Felstead in Essex and a local icon The Shed on Mersea Island, serving the freshest fish and shellfish and of course West Mersea oysters.
